Seven’s Story: A Strange Diversion
Hypothesis: Mobile gamers represent a segment highly likely to enjoy Netflix's Stranger Things. Engaging this segment head on with a ST-themed game will bring them into the fold as new subscribers, while optionally generating additional revenue for the franchise.
Description
I had the pleasure of completing General Assembly's rigorous and pragmatic Product Management curriculum under the tutelage of Chika Umeadi. The course culminated in my final project, which was the cohesive foundation for a new product. In my case, this was a mobile game, complete with roadmap, target personas, clickable wireframes and usability testing output. The product leveraged nostalgia marketing and mobile gaming as a means to create a new revenue stream for a well-known media streaming service.
It's worth noting that this project was completed in June 2017. In October 2017, Netflix partnered with BonusXP to launch Stranger Things: The Game, an 8-bit RPG-style mobile game. Interestingly, they did not use the game as an additional revenue stream. But it certainly has been a driver for incremental content subscriptions.
